Flinders University Stainless Steel Bins
Roll out of 65 custom bins across campus.
Selected by Flinders University as the preferred vendor, Terrain Group were engaged to custom design, manufacture and deliver stainless steel bin enclosures for the Bedford Park, South Australia campus. Detailed waste collection using our strong and sturdy bin enclosures was the client’s requirement for the site, and to instruct and reduce waste on-site by guided sorting of the rubbish.
These stainless steel units were made with perforated side panels and curved roofs to restrict access from birds and rodents, and keep rain out. The scope of works also included custom-designed vinyl decals that were printed, supplied and installed by Terrain Group. We made a design modification to the units to allow for fitment of adjustable feet to accommodate sloping ground and uneven installation locations.
Released during Orientation Week in early March 2020, one of the university’s busiest times of the year, we commenced the staged installation of 65 brand new bin enclosures. Designed to manage and sort waste on-site, these units reflect new waste management branding for the campus and provide great visual insight into the importance of recycling and the sorting of waste.
“This has been a great journey right from the initial customer enquiry for bin enclosures though to commencement of the rollout and installation works…The graphics provide clear and concise messages to the public and they are an easy-clean, sturdy bin from the Terrain Group range.“
Jayne Selby, Projects Manager

Terrain Group was also engaged to carry out all the installation works on site, which meant the removal of old units and the making good of surrounds, paving and nearby landscape and irrigated areas.
Josh, Jarryd, Peter, Braden and Chris from the Terrain Group install team led the works. Although some areas and locations were challenging with distances, slopes and access, the team did everything to ensure the works were carried out in the most timely manner, with minimal interruptions.
This has been a great journey right from the initial customer enquiry for bin enclosures though to commencement of the rollout and installation works. As you know the University covers a vast land area, as we embarked on the installation on-site, we soon understood we were working in a busy public realm, and we ensured we did our best to cause minimal interruptions at all times for students. It’s great to see the bins installed now, they now provide the campus with a sorted waste approach which will be beneficial for years to come. The graphics provide clear and concise messages to the public and they are an easy-clean, sturdy bin from the Terrain Group range.
